About The Book

Asra is a demigod with a dangerous gift: the ability to dictate the future by writing with her blood. To keep her power secret, she leads a quiet life as a healer on a remote mountain, content to help the people in her care and spend time with Ina, the mortal girl she loves.

But Asra’s peaceful life is upended when bandits threaten Ina’s village and the king does nothing to help. Desperate to protect her people, Ina begs Asra for assistance in finding her manifest—the animal she’ll be able to change into as her rite of passage to adulthood. Asra uses her blood magic to help Ina, but her spell goes horribly wrong and the bandits destroy the village, killing Ina’s family.

Unaware that Asra is at fault, Ina swears revenge on the king and takes a savage dragon as her manifest. To stop her, Asra must embark on a journey across the kingdom, becoming a player in lethal games of power among assassins, gods, and even the king himself. Most frightening of all, she discovers the dark secrets of her own mysterious history—and the terrible, powerful legacy she carries in her blood.

“It felt good to be loved. It felt good, for once, not to be the one who loved more, who loved too much, who loved until she lost herself in something beautiful and reckless and dangerous that could only end in blood and death.” (Coulthurst, 236).

My Thoughts

First of all, let’s take a moment to admire how truly STUNNING this cover is. This novel is filled with Bisexuality, Dragons, Demigods, Bloodshed & Adventure. That should be enough to allure you into the world Audrey Coulthurst has created.

I want to acknowledge that as a Bisexual female, I felt properly represented in this novel. Audrey delivered a heart felt self discovering Bisexual Fantasy that genuinely left a beautiful mark on my heart, body, mind & soul. There is also SO many diverse characters with different race, sexuality, & financial status and it warms my heart.

Asra goes through a period of self discovery, finding who her parents are, but also the right people to surround herself with whether it’s platonic or non-platonic. I can relate to Asra deeply—I’ve been through similar issues like betrayal, being lied to, one sided relationships/friendships, self discovery, and finding her place in the world.

Asra’s consciousness is written with such care, vulnerability, and honesty that’s incredibly raw & genuine. Audrey’s writing is uniquely beautiful it’s almost poetic. She paints a stunningly vivid atmosphere that embraces you with genuine love.

I appreciate the world building that teleports you within the book it feels so surreal. Every touch, smell & sense mentioned is accurately descriptive. There is so much magic, combat fighting, affection, & adventure driven scenes that will not disappoint.

Also a addicting slow burning romance & plot I enjoyed. I’m usually not a big fan of romance, but this novel had just the right amount of it. It wasn’t to cheesy or eye rolling. Inkmistress filled my heart with pure joy and love that I wasn’t expecting to come back again & again every time.

I’m being 100% honest when saying that Inkmistress is truly a phenomenal book that brought me to tears, anger, laughter, and uncontrollably blushing. I also have a huge crush on Hal, and he’s my #1 Book Boyfriend.

I’m also a huge fantasy nerd and this book sparked my urge to become a Demigod, potion master and being a Dragon manifest… is that even possible all at once?

By the end I was so attached to the characters & world I honestly didn’t want to let go. Overall, I’m head of over heels with this novel & will never stop loving it.

My Rating…

5/5 Stars
