Heeey Unicorns it’s Lori!🦄✨

Fun Fact About Me: I used to be in Theatre in High School.

This book is about acting & being in Theatre camp which I could resonate with. The cover also is stunning (It involves Unicorns so of course it’s beautiful). I hope you enjoy my honest opinions. Have a lovely day & thank you for reading my review💖

About The Book

The big-hearted story of a small-town girl who discovers how wide the world really is during one transformative summer. Perfect for fans of Susane Colasanti and Sarah Dessen.

Penny loves her small-town Florida life, and she has her future mapped out. She’s going to community college after graduation to stay close to home and her best friend, Faye. She’ll take over the family diner that her dad has been managing since her mother died. And one day, she’ll marry her high school sweetheart, Logan.

But when she unexpectedly lands a scholarship to a prestigious summer theater camp, she is thrust into a world of competition and self-doubt. And suddenly, her future gets a little hazy. As she meets new friends, including Chase, a talented young actor with big-city dreams, she begins to realize that maybe the life everyone (including her) expects her to lead is not the one she was meant to have.

My Thoughts

From my experience of being on stage to feel the rush of adrenaline, being out of my comfort zone, nerve wracking, & also self conscious of my performance. These emotions were constant when acting & THIS TINY PERFECT WORLD arose all the same feelings when reading it which I related to. I truly missed the feeling of butterflies & adrenaline that arose again when reading. This novel is a slow paced contemporary that highlights taking risks, coming of age story that’s realistic & hopeful.

Penny, the main character has amazing & supportive people around her who believe in her talents. It was such a comforting feeling to see heartfelt, humorous & sincere friends and family around Penny.

Sadly, I chose to DNF this book because of how slow it was & I LITERALLY was falling asleep. I tried to force myself to read it numerous of times which wasn’t fun at all. I usually enjoy reading contemporary books, but this book really made me rethink about whether I truly like them or not. I’m incredibly disappointed because I enjoy Theatre & books so I assumed this would be a good mixture for me personally, but was wrong.

What I did love about the novel was that it illustrates a moral lesson to learn, which is to get out of your comfort zone and explore more of the world. Whether it would be going to college out of state or singing on stage. There is more to life than being in one literal or figurative place. That also does not mean to shame others for wanting to stay in their comfort zone but to kindly hold their hand for new potential paths on the horizon.

Overall, every individual has their own path in life to choose and only you have the potential to change your surroundings, career, etc.

My rating is…

2.9/5 Stars

About The Author

Lauren Gibaldi is a public librarian who’s been, among other things, a magazine editor, high school English teacher, bookseller, and circus aerialist (seriously). She has a BA in Literature and Master’s in Library and Information Studies. She lives in Orlando, Florida with her husband and daughter. Her books include THE NIGHT WE SAID YES, AUTOFOCUS, and the forthcoming THIS TINY PERFECT WORLD.

I love dinosaurs, pasta, musicals, and cheesy jokes.
