About The Book

DRAGONS OF TALON: Once hunted nearly to extinction, they are now poised to take over the world. THE ORDER OF ST. GEORGE: The legendary dragonslayers will stop at nothing to wipe dragons from the face of the earth.

These mortal enemies are locked in secret and deadly combat, with humanity none the wiser.

To take her rightful place in the Talon organization, young dragon Ember Hill must prove she can hide her true nature and blend in with humans. Her delight at the prospect of a summer of “normal” teen experiences is short-lived, however, once she discovers that she’s also expected to train for her destined career in Talon. But a chance meeting with a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught.

As Ember struggles to accept her future, St. George soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian is tasked with hunting her down. But when faced with Ember’s bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything the Order has ingrained in him—and what he might be willing to give up to uncover the truth about dragons.

My Thoughts

This book has been on my TBR pile for awhile & when I was at the library I couldn’t help but borrow it. Humans to shapeshift into Dragons? HELL YES. I read this within a span of 2 days & would’ve read it in a day since it’s fast paced. It was fast paced yet slow? This book was incredibly boring & I never knew a book based on Dragons could be this predictable & disappointing. SO SAD.

I couldn’t help but notice how predictable the book seemed to be which was kind of a bummer. She does fall for a teenage boy named Garret who is supposed to be her enemy because he’s apart of a secret agency called the Order of St. George who are trained to kill Dragons.

She also didn’t show any character development like I would’ve hoped with a personality like hers which was a bit disappointing. By 80% of reading it I was like “That’s it???” I expected more action, but noticed all the action was towards the ending.

I liked the protagonist Ember, but at times her rebellious, stubborn & naive ways frustrated me when she didn’t care about the consequences for her actions would not only affect her but also her twin brother Dante & the organization, Talon. The different characters were each loveable or hated for different reasons too.

I did enjoy Ember having a fiery personality that compliments her red hair. The Author does an amazing job of showing the audience each character’s mindset & emotions. The book is descriptive and the world building was great.

Overall, I was really anticipated this book to be everything I hoped for, but it was slightly disappointing because of it’s predictable ways. I kinda of enjoyed, but I won’t be reading book 2 anytime soon.

My rating….

2.8/5 Stars

About The Author

Julie Kagawa, the New York Times bestselling author of the Iron Fey and Blood of Eden series was born in Sacramento, California. But nothing exciting really happened to her there.

So, at the age of nine she and her family moved to Hawaii, which she soon discovered was inhabited by large carnivorous insects, colonies of house geckos, and frequent hurricanes. She spent much of her time in the ocean, when she wasn’t getting chased out of it by reef sharks, jellyfish, and the odd eel.

When not swimming for her life, Julie immersed herself in books, often to the chagrin of her school teachers, who would find she hid novels behind her Math textbooks during class.

Lori’s QOTD: If you could shapeshift into any animal, what would it be?

  1. I love the cover but the content doesn’t sound that great! I find a lot of Dragon based books can be hit or miss. Second book I’ve seen that you didn’t enjoy 😔
