Helloooooo Unicorns & Happy Monday!✨ It’s your girl Lori here with a review of Children Of Blood & Bone. Spoiler Alert: I’m in LOVE with this book ah! There will also be a movie adaptation to it (currently in production), so get reading! I hope enjoy this post🔥

Zelie remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zelie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.

But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were targeted and killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.

Now, Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.

Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers—and her growing feelings for the enemy.

Welcome to the world of Orïsha…

“As long as we don’t have magic, they will never treat us with respect. They need to know we can hit them back. If they burn our homes, we burn theirs too.” (Children Of Blood & Bone, 116).

MY THOUGHTSHonestly, at first I was pretty intimidated by the size of CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE & the page count because I haven’t read a book as long before (600 pgs).

But I genuinely enjoyed each chapter that I didn’t realize which pages I’m at & lost track of time. The novel highlights beautifully written point of views of three main characters so well that you can notice the difference between them.

This book is full of action, adventure, magic & badass characters. You can genuinely feel the emotions & expressive thoughts of each character fly off the pages. It really makes you empathize with each idea of theirs despite of how ruthless, vengeful, vulnerable it may be.

You can also see character developments which is always incredible to notice a shift in their beliefs, actions & personality. Tomi’s writing is extremely vivid, descriptive & will captivate you each page you turn.

The world of Orisha & each city the characters travel through will pull you into the alluring atmosphere. Tomi perfectly hits above the mark with her world building, character development & descriptive nature it’s astonishing.

After reading it I’m so surprised at how much I enjoyed it from cover to cover, despite it being highly anticipated that really DID lived up to my personal expectations. (I have really high expectations in general, so it was astonishing to see they were met).

I also loved the main focus of magic & Orisha’s mentioned within the book that made me smile. Orisha’s are spiritual Gods & Goddess, Guardians. I know many & it was a familiar yet comforting feeling to know I knew a few mentioned.

I also learned about more history of Orisha’s & guardians I haven’t heard of. I also wanted to mention that there is mild romance weaved into the book. So if you enjoy a light hate to love relationship then you’ll enjoy this read. It’s main focus isn’t romance, but the resurrection of magic & vengeance.

Overall, Children Of Blood & Bone is really worth the read and HIGHLY recommend you Pre-order.

My Rating....

5/5 Stars! (My first 5 starred book of 2018).

  1. It’s good to hear that you enjoyed this one so much! I didn’t realize it was so big! 600 pages is a lot but it goes by quickly if you’re enjoying it. Also I love that it has a great map, books in maps are one of my favorite things!

  2. Brilliant review! I’m so intruigued by this book, heard a lot of people talking about it. I had no idea it was so long though 😮😂 It’s always nice when a book is long and you’re really enjoying it though. ☺️ If I had super powers I’d love to either be able to teleport or read minds!
